The following will help you to use the IoT Console to switch the Device Template associated with any device within your realm.

Templates can be changed from the Device Registry tab in the Console. You can either use Edit Registry or you can use the Bulk Actions > Move to New Device Template option on one or more devices.

Using Bulk Actions

  1. Log into the IoT Console.

  2. Navigate to the Device Registry tab.

  3. Look up the Device(s) that you want to modify.

  4. Select (tick the checkbox) for any devices you want to modify.

  5. Expand the Bulk Actions dropdown and select Move to new Device Template.

  6. Select the new template that should be used and save.

IMPORTANT: Changing a template only affects the next time a device is added to the app. If a device is already Paired (added to an account), it needs to be manually removed & re-added by the customer in the app before the change will be shown to the user - the user will continue to see the old template & behavior until this is done.

Remember also that re-adding a device like this will mean history for the device will be cleared.

Using Edit Registry

  1. Log into the IoT Console.

  2. Navigate to the Device Registry tab.

  3. Look up the Device that you want to modify.

  4. Under the Actions menu select Edit Registry. The Edit Registry dialog will open.

  5. Expand the Device Type dropdown and select the desired new template.

  6. Don’t forget to save your changes.
