The following information will help you when using a Google mail account. Following these instructions will create a Google App Password which will you will then use as a secure password when setting up the Email settings to user your account.

💡 App passwords allow you to share access to your Account without sharing your master password. This has the advantage of allowing you to later revoke any shared access without having to change your master account password. It is strongly advised to follow a method such as this when granting access.

  1. Go to your Google Account Security page.

💡 Note: Make sure that you are logged in under whatever Google account you will be using for Email.

  2. Make sure that 2-Step Verification is enabled for your account. If it is not currently enabled, enable it now as 2-Step Verification is required in order to use App passwords.

  3. Select App passwords to begin the process of creating a new app password which can then be saved into your white label settings in the console.

In the fields shown, select Mail and Other (Custom Name) and then give it a name such as “IoT Console Email“.

  4. Click on Generate and a popup will appear showing you the 16 digit password that you should use in settings to access your Email.

💡 NOTE: Be sure to make note of the password before you close this dialog. It will not be shown to you again.

  5. Go to the Email settings in the IoT Console and be sure the setup for Gmail is as follows:

    • SMTP Host: smtp.gmail.com

    • SMTP Port: 587

    • SMTP Password: the 16 digit App Password that you generated

    • SMTP Secure: No

    • SMTP Require TLS: Yes

  6. Be sure to Save. The settings will be tested and validated and you should see a success message and be given a chance to send yourself a test email to verify everything is working.
