Before you begin

What are sensors?

With sensors in IOT, you can monitor your assets in real-time 24/7, receive alerts when things go out of critical range, and record business-critical data automatically. This empowers you to stay compliant, prevent asset loss, and make informed decisions based on historical sensor data trends.   • We recommend that you set aside 1 hour to complete the self-installation. Make sure you follow each step carefully, and if you get stuck at any time, review the troubleshooting section at the end of this guide.

  • A sensor name allows up to 50 characters.

  • If you're already tracking conditions and want to integrate with IoT, learn more about integrating with our solutions.

  • IoT requires you to add devices by locations Select the correct location’s menu when adding a device

We offer different types of sensor hardware. This guide outlines the self-installation instructions for the temperature monitoring solution.

1. Add a gateway

If you've already added a gateway for your sensors, skip to the "3. Add a sensor" section.

Web app

  1. Log in to the IoT web App

  2. Select Menu from the right-hand side.

  3. Click + Add Gateway from the menu.

  4. Enter your gateway's "ID code" and click Next. You need to enter the number including "eui-” in the appropriate field

  5. Enter a gateway name to easily identify (e.g. Main Kitchen Gateway) and click Add Gateway

  6. Connect your gateway to a power outlet and ensure the outlet is turned on.

  7. It may take between five-ten minutes to activate the gateway online.

  8. Once the gateway is successfully added, the App will automatically allow you to scan in your sensor. Enter your sensor’s “ID code” and click Add sensor to add a sensor or click Cancel to return to the main dashboard.

Mobile app

  1. Log in to the IoT mobile App

  2. Tap three dot menu icon next to the location.

  3. Tap + Add Gateway

  4. Allow the App to access your camera

  5. Scan the Gateway’s QR code or select Enter Gateway ID manually

  6. Enter a gateway name to easily identify (e.g. Main Kitchen Gateway) and click Add Gateway

  7. Connect your gateway to a power outlet and ensure the outlet is turned on.

  8. It may take between five-ten minutes to activate the gateway online.

  9. Once the gateway is successfully added, the App will automatically allow you to scan in your sensor. Enter your sensor’s “ID code” and click Add sensor to add a sensor or click Cancel to return to the main dashboard.

2. Place a gateway

Once you've added the gateway to your account, you can place the gateway.

  1. Find a location within approximately 300m/1000ft of where you will be installing your sensors and place your gateway.

    • If your gateway connects via cellular network, ensure your chosen location has strong cellular reception, which can be checked with your mobile phone.

  2. Power your gateway on by connecting it to a power outlet and ensuring the outlet is switched ON.

The gateway is not required to be mounted, but should you choose to do so, make sure the mounting bracket is installed in an area with strong cellular reception and is out of the way to avoid any accidental damage.

3. Add a sensor

Web app

If you've just added the gateway to your iAuditor account, skip to step 6.

  1. Log in to the IoT web App

  2. Select Menu from the right-hand side

  3. Click + Add Device from the menu.

  4. Scan the Gateway’s QR code or select Enter Gateway ID manually. When entering manually you only need to enter the number after "eui-" on your gateway.

  5. Fill in the following fields:

    • Device Use: Select the use type for the sensor (e.g.: Freezer, Refrigerator, Room, Other).

    • Device name: Name the sensor. We recommend that you name the sensor after the asset or area it will be monitoring.

    • Configuration: Select whether you want your readings in (C) Celsius or (F) Fahrenheit.

  6. Click Add Device and select Done on the Smart monitoring set up screen, or select Add Another Device to add more sensors

  7. Turn on your sensor by holding the ACT button for five seconds until it flashes

  8. The sensor will connect to your Gateway in seconds

  9. It may take up to 20 minutes to add and receive a reading from the sensor. You can check back later or Refresh the sensor details page after 20 minutes to set up your alerts.

Mobile app

  1. Log in to the IoT mobile App

4. Install a sensor

Once you've added the sensor to your account, you can install the sensor. Where you place your sensor all depends on what type of area you want to monitor. However, we recommend that you take note of the following best practices:

  • Avoid placing your sensor near doors or in any area of direct airflow.

  • Place your sensor in a central area, not too high and not too low.

  • Position your sensor in an area out of the way to avoid any accidental damage.

Our sensors can be installed with either double-sided tapes or cable ties. Both are included with your sensors. We recommend using tape for smooth and dry surfaces and cable ties for moist or low-temperature areas.

If you need to install your sensor in areas with rough or unstable surfaces, you also have the option to install with screws. We recommend screws that are countersunk flat-head with a diameter of 4mm or 5/32". Keep in mind that screws are not provided with the sensors.

5. Review Signal strength

  1. Log in to the IoT mobile App

  2. Select sensor name to view history

  3. On the History tab, review the Signal Strength (dBm)

    • 2 digits (-99 dBm or higher) = Ok

      • Your sensor is online with strong signal

      • Proceed to next securing the sensor

    • 3 digits (-100 dBm or lower) = Not O

      • Your sensor is online with low signal

      • Adjust your Gateway closer to your sensors. 

      • If in a large space, an additional gateway may be necessary

  4. Repeat steps for next sensor

Troubleshooting

Gateway

Where can I find my gateway's ID code?

The ID code should be on the sticker placed at the bottom of your gateway's body. If the sticker is not visible or illegible due to damage or other reasons, please contact our customer support team for assistance.

I received the "Gateway ID you entered is invalid. Please try again." message.

Ensure you've entered the ID code of your gateway, not your sensor. Then double-check the numbers.

Gateway missing antenna or power cord?

Please contact our customer support team for assistance.

Gateway showing Offline? Reset gateway.

  1. Unplug Gateway from outlet

  2. Unscrew battery cover and disconnect battery for 15 seconds (if any)

  3. Reconnect battery and return cover (if any)

  4. Reconnect Gateway to outlet

  5. Still offline? Relocate gateway to new outlet and reset

  6. If still offline after trying 3 resets & locations, please contact our customer support team for assistance.

Sensor

Where can I find my sensor's ID code?

The ID code should be on the sticker placed at the front of your sensor's body. If the sticker is not visible or illegible due to damage or other reasons, please contact our customer support team for assistance.

I received the "Sensor ID you entered is invalid. Please try again." message.

Ensure you've entered the ID code of your sensor, not your gateway. Then double-check the numbers.

I still haven't received a reading 20 minutes after adding my sensor.

Try resetting the sensor and wait for thirty seconds before activating the sensor back on.

If you continue to experience this problem, please check the following and try adding the sensor again:

  • Make sure the sensor is within 300m/1000ft of the gateway. Obstructions between the gateway and the sensor may impact the distance. Try moving the sensor and gateway closer together to see if they're able to connect.
