The following guide will show you how to upload a Gateways into your organization instance on our Azure Chirpstack LNS. This will allow you to directly register gateways for use with Chirpstack without having to contact myDevices.

This article covers how to upload Gateways. You may also wish to see our Device article for information on how to upload those.

Things you will need to get started

  • Your IoT Console credentials - You will use the IoT Console to upload Gateway IDs so that they are recognized within the dashboard app.

  • Your Chirpstack Login credentials - You will need to use the Chirpstack console to register the gateway for use with the network. See also: Request access to Chirpstack

How to add Gateways

Gateways need to be registered in both the IoT Console as well as in the Chirpstack console. This is necessary so that both the dashboard app and the network server recognize the hardware. For all the hardware sold and shipped my myDevices we do this for you, however if you want to bring your own hardware these steps are necessary.

Currently, Gateways can only be added individually in Chirpstack console. If you want them batch added you will need to submit a request for us to process the batch for you.

Coming soon: We are working on giving our partners the ability to batch add hardware into both the Device Registry and into Chirpstack from a single step in the IoT Console Upload wizard! Stay tuned.

Step 1: Add Gateways to the IoT Console

In this step you will add the Gateway ID(s) to the IoT Console so that they are recognized by the dashboard app.

<QUICK VIDEO SHOWING THIS>

Please remember to include the prefix eui- when registering in the IoT Console. Failing to do so will cause issues later when trying to add them in the app.

  1. Log into the IoT Console.

  2. Go to the Device Registry tab.

  3. Select Upload Devices.

  4. Complete adding the Gateways through the Upload Devices dialog.

    1. For Device Type you can select the appropriate gateway template or if needed you can always select a generic gateway template such as Generic Gateway.

    2. Select the network server that these gateways are being used with. E.g. CSIO (US) for the US-based Azure Chirpstack.

    3. Select Choose csv and upload a file containing only a list of Gateway IDs to be registered.

Step 2: Register individual Gateway on Chirpstack

In this step you will register an individual gateway on Chirpstack so that it can be used with the network.

<QUICK VIDEO SHOWING THIS>

Please remember you do not include the prefix eui- when registering in Chirpstack.

  1. Log into the Chirpstack console.

  2. Select Gateways.

  3. Select Create.

  4. Enter in the information needed to add a gateway

    1. Enter a name and description for the gateway (these are for information purposes only).

    2. Important: The Gateway ID must be the hardware ID of the gateway minus the eui- part. For example enter 00001c497bffbxyz

    3. Select the appropriate Network-server entry from the dropdown.

    4. None of the other fields are important.

  5. Don’t forget to select CREATE GATEWAY at the bottom of the screen.

Batch adding Gateways for Chirpstack use

Currently, Gateways can only be added individually within Chirpstack console. If registering individually is too large a task, you can contact us and we can batch register them to your Chirpstack instance for you.

To do so, Contact us with the details for your gateway registration.

Please be sure to provide all the information we need to register your hardware.

  • Include all the Hardware IDs

  • Include Gateway / Device Type & Model

  • Include your Organization information and Device-profile information (the same data you would require when registering hardware in the IoT Console and Chirpstack Console is the information we would need as well).

  • No labels
