Custom Templates

Overview

Templates are where you define the capabilities and characteristics to support any device. The template defines various capabilities that drive what data is displayed, how it’s displayed and used in the app. Templates are designed to work in concert with a codec which decodes payload information received from the sensor.

Creating a new Template

  • New templates are created from the Device Templates section in the IoT Console.

  • After starting the creation of a new template, there are several sub-sections that must be filled out. Tips / info for each sub-section is broken out into dedicated wiki pages. Please review all when filling them out.

  • Templates are now the main storage for all device-related information. This means that the info populated in the template is starting to drive not only our app but also things like our Store and potentially other items as well. Take care to enter all information in the template, not just the bare bones - otherwise sections that are used but missing may impact the usefulness of the data. For example, the list of Attributes continues to grow and there are several that are now Required for all templates and it is up to the person(s) who create the template to locate and fill in this information before it can be considered released. For example, all of these must be added:

    • IP Ratings & Certification info

    • Downlink commands

    • Simulator Support

    • Resource Information

Please see the individual articles which covers each of the sections in the template and tells you how to accomplish template related tasks.
