General section
Before you can create a new Template, you must first fill this General tab out and save your template.
Note: None of the other template sections are enabled until you first fill out this General tab information and save your new template for the first time.
Field notes:
Name:
Name of the template. It should be descriptive enough to differentiate it easily for everyone who opens the dropdown of Templates and starts to look for your template.By default this name will be shown to end-users. White Label partners can choose to turn off this display in their app, but it’s worth keeping in mind that by default it does get shown.
Partner-specific templates should be labeled as such. For example if you are creating a template copy with customizations specific to a partner, label the Name to include their name. This will make it much easier for everyone to identify what the copy is for / easier to find it in our template list later when you want to make use of it.
Manufacturer:
Model:
Specify the name of the Model. Do not repeat Manufacturer. E.g. “LHT65”, not “Dragino LHT65”. Try your best to always locate the model # or similar for a device as it is quite useful, especially for people who were not involved in the hardware onboarding / support and later need to locate & change the template.Certifications:
List the Certifications that this hardware has, as pulled for verifiable datasheet, etc. Examples are FCC, CE, etc.IP Rating:
List the IP Rating for this device. Example IP65, IP67. Again, pull the info from datasheets.General Device Icon:
Select an icon that should be used by default for this device. This icon will be the default used when this device gets dropped into Sensor Maps. Select something that will be appropriate with that in mind - e.g. use a “Pin” marker for something with GPS or a Thermometer for temperature sensors.Category:
Choose Module here. The other options are leftovers from Cayenne.Subcategory:
Select the correct device category between LoRa, MQTT or Bluetooth depending upon how the device operates. In most cases this will be LoRa.Codec:
Choose the correct codec to be used for the device. This codec will be used to decode the payloads that the sensor sends, so selecting the correct codec here to pair with the template is critical.App ID:
Unused / unselectable. At present time this field is not something that a template creator needs to be concerned with - leave defaulted.
